a map of singlehood
Sketched whilst being stood up for a date
When the Tinder date doesn’t show, embrace the extra ‘Me Time’! I enjoyed a sunny morning at the park in a bright red hammock, where I began to draft this visual map of my feelings about singlehood. All-in-all, an excellent date.
I jotted down my initial thoughts and map outline in a sketchbook, then took a picture of it which I transferred to Procreate on the iPad to clean up and colorize. The entire project took about 7 hours.
This illustration resonated with hundreds of people on both Facebook and Instagram. People I didn’t even know commented, shared and tagged their friends. Some people even clamored for Map of Singlehood merch!
Despite the impulsiveness of this project, I think it turned out so well because this is a subject I care about and know backwards and forwards. I’m proud of how accurately this illustration captures my feelings of the pain, joy, and occasional hilarious absurdity of navigating the world while single.
